All SURVA Indoor tournaments for 2019-2020 are cancelled.
all outdoor (beach) tournaments are still on for competition.
The updates from USAV are subject to change very rapidly. Changes have occurred six times in the past three weeks with the latest ban now being until April 30. These changing decisions have impacted the ability of SURVA to plan and execute the tournament schedule. We understand that we all must address the health crisis as a priority where the safety and well-being of our “volleyball family” is our primary concern! SURVA will continue to support the programs and decisions of USA Volleyball during these trying times.
That being said, it is in the best interests of our members that the SURVA Board of Directors has made the decision to cancel all SURVA SANCTIONED INDOOR Tournaments for the 2019-2020 season including the Region Championships.
The ban on other SURVA-USAV sanctioned activities, such as but not limited to practices & other team/group meetings/lessons, remains at April 30.
There has been much discussion over the past three weeks and all members of the Board have been actively participating in our decisions. Many factors were considered; the protection and well-being of our members, the economic impact on parents and families & the operational stability of our clubs. We hope that you can work together with your club to get through this trying time. Communication, understanding and cooperation are key!
Beach outdoor tournaments, all of which are scheduled outside the current April 30 ban, are still on schedule for competition. They will be addressed if the ban dates change. We have many clubs planning Regional Beach Qualifiers with National bids and our Beach National Qualifier in ABQ is still on schedule in May. We hope to send you a beach schedule as we hear from the tournament hosts. Volleyball is not dead–just a short hibernation! So take a short break and get ready for the summer programming.
To clarify this announcement, ALL SURVA memberships will remain intact through the end of the of the current USAV membership season. Any SURVA club or team wishing to participate in a USAV endorsed activity is eligible to do so. This announcement impacts only those indoor tournaments endorsed by SURVA through August 31, 2020. At this time, ALL USAV Championship events, including the Girls Nationals in Dallas, are scheduled to proceed as planned.
If by some miracle circumstances permit us to get athletes back on the indoor courts before April 30, SURVA will be ready to reinstate/promote that effort. But we must not allow our love of the game or our emotions to interfere with proper common sense decisions. WHEN permitted, SURVA will do everything possible to create a “back to normal environment” for all our athletes!
There will be many questions and all Board members will be making every effort to address your concerns. Your best avenue for information continues to be through your Area Reps.
Now that the tournament schedule status has been decided, staff will be able to prioritize their efforts on issuing refunds and awarding our Region bids. Thanks for your patience while we process all refunds.
SURVA clubs have demonstrated their character by providing the best in instruction, playing opportunities and facilities. We will continue working closely with your clubs to promote that relationship. All of us are holding onto hope; the goal of which is to create a FUTURE all of us can believe in!
Please continue to access the SURVA website for the latest updates from SURVA and USAV.
Stay safe and look out for each other; we’ll see all of you on the court very soon!
Good luck, good health and best wishes,
Sun Country Board of Directors
